The Colorado River

The Colorado River runs right through Grand Junction and it offers a wide variety of activities. Interestingly enough, the name "Grand" refers to the historical upper Colorado River until renamed in 1921, and the word "Junction" is from the joining of the Colorado and Gunnison rivers; hence the name Grand Junction.
Rafting is a very popular activity that the river offers. Small rapids and relatively calm water make this a great family affair. If you prefer to stay out of the water there is a outstanding river trail that takes you along the river. This is very popular among bikers and joggers because of the great beauty of nature and many enjoy strolling along the side of the river. It takes you through beautiful cottonwood forests where you will usually here the melody of local birds chirping away. The Colorado River definitely offer many fun and exciting things to do this upcoming summer.
